Happy

Happy reflects the pressure to think, look, and behave in ways others deem acceptable. The artist considers how the fear of differences leads people to judge, exclude, and control others, and how much people are expected to suppress about themselves to belong. The repeated marks suggest that insistence on uniformity. Beneath them, color keeps peeking through. For the artist, that color represents individual thought, creativity, and the happiness of being oneself, pushing against the constraints society places on people.
