In the Unmaking

In the Unmaking explores what happens when we allow ourselves to come apart from what we have been told we should be.
Pulled off balance, the central figure exists within the noise of competing demands and expectations. The butterflies reflect the natural process of unmaking and becoming--not necessarily into something better or more beautiful, but into something different.
In the lower corner, an idealized version of womanhood represents the standard waiting to measure that becoming: contained, composed, and shaped by a male gaze that has been both externalized and internalized.
The question is not whether she will become enough or learn to be less. It is who she will become when neither is the goal.
Materials: Mixed-media collage and acrylic on watercolor paper in a floating frame
