On Her Own Terms celebrates the beauty of Black women's confidence--the assurance of knowing their worth and claiming authority over their own lives. Their pride and dignity carry an insistence on being seen, being heard, and taking up space without permission or apology. Each woman speaks for herself: My Place Is Right Here. I'm Not Asking for Permission. I Set My Own Path. Together, these declarations confront expectations that Black women make themselves smaller, quieter, or more accommodating to receive respect. Their humanity is inherent. Their right to exist exactly as they are is unconditional.
