Through It All

Through It All celebrates the accomplishments and relationships that define Mel's life. At its center are Mel and his wife whose relationship remains his top priority now that their children are grown. Together, they rise above and move through external chaos, grounded in one another and their community, represented by the skyline.

The black and white marks reflect Mel's vision of a world where Black and White people live and work together in equity. The word "Roots" provides grounding and strength. Its heavy, permanent lettering honors the weight carried by his ancestors. Within its letters are his parents' names, the lessons passed down by his parents and grandparents, and his hometown.

"Fam" is small yet tightly knit, holding the names and birthdays of his wife, children, and granddaughter. Its lettering expresses the strength and closeness of family, always at the forefront of the couple's minds. "Community" is distressed but solid, acknowledging that strong building blocks exist while important work remains.

"Legacy" is open, representing the groundwork Mel is laying in this phase of his life. His focus turns toward what he will pass on to his children, employees, and community, leaving room for them to continue filling it in.
